Get an Anthropic key

Before you start

• An email address, to create an account in the Claude Console, which is where Anthropic keys live.
• A payment card. Anthropic asks you to buy credits before you use its API, and takes the cost of what TAKT uses from them.
• Your account needs a few dollars of credit before the key works. On the Dashboard, click Add funds.

Get your key

1. Go to platform.claude.com. Click Continue with Google, or enter your email and click Continue with email.

   

2. On the Dashboard, click Get API key.

   

3. In the Create API key window, type a Name and choose when the key Expires. Leave Linked account set to you and Scope set to the Default workspace. Click Create key.

   

4. Click Copy key, then Done. The Console says you won't be able to view the key again, so copy it now. The key starts with sk-ant-.

   

5. Your key is now listed under API keys in the left menu. Create key there makes another one.

   

Paste it into TAKT

Go back to TAKT. On the Set up screen, click Add key on the Anthropic card. Paste your key into the box marked Paste your Anthropic key, then click Check and save. The button shows Checking… while TAKT tests the key. When it works, you see ✓ Connected.

Keep it safe

• Treat the key like a password. Anyone who has it can spend your credits.
• Anthropic shows the full key only once. If you lose it, you cannot see it again, so make a new one instead.
• Set a monthly spend limit. Go to Settings, then Billing, and under Spend limits click Adjust limit, or Set limit if there is none yet. Anthropic explains it on its limits page.

What it costs

You pay Anthropic directly, at Anthropic's prices, and TAKT adds nothing on top. Anthropic lists its prices on its pricing page.

If it does not work

• No credits, or they ran out. When there are no credits left, Anthropic stops answering. On the Dashboard, click Add funds.
• Part of the key is missing. A whole key starts with sk-ant-. If you did not copy all of it, you cannot see it again, so make a new key and copy it in one go.
• The key expired or was deleted. You chose when it expires when you made it. Make a new one on the API keys page.
